Sears has become one of the biggest chain department stores in the US. Everyone knows about Sears and everyone knows that when you want something you will always find it here. But where is ‘here’? The first Sears retail store opened in 1925 in Chicago at Homan Avenue and Arthington Street. But the first freestanding retail store opened Evansville, Indiana on October 1925. In 1928 3 more Sears locations appeared in Chicago. One is on the north side at Lawrence and Winchester, a second on the south side at 79th and Kenwood, and the third at 62nd and Western.
